What are Ceramic Braces?

Damon clear braces are a type of orthodontic device used to correct misaligned teeth and improve dental health. They are part of the Damon System, which is a revolutionary approach to orthodontics that uses lighter wires and lower friction brackets to move teeth more comfortably and efficiently.

Unlike traditional braces that often require elastic ties, Damon braces utilize a slide mechanism to hold the wire, allowing teeth to move freely and naturally. This reduces the amount of pressure exerted on the teeth, leading to less discomfort and faster treatment times.

Some of the unique features of Damon clear braces include:

  1. Clear Aesthetic: As the name suggests, Damon clear braces are transparent, making them less noticeable than Damon metal braces. This makes them a popular choice for adults and teens who are concerned about the aesthetic impact of orthodontic treatment.
  2. Self-Ligating Technology: Damon clear braces use a self-ligating system, which means the braces automatically adjust as your teeth move. This reduces the need for frequent tightening appointments.
  3. Comfort: The design of Damon clear braces reduces friction and pressure on the teeth, often resulting in a more comfortable treatment experience compared to traditional braces.
  4. Efficiency: The Damon system’s technology often leads to faster treatment times and fewer visits to the orthodontist, making it a more convenient option for many patients.

Damon Clear Braces are a modern, aesthetic, and efficient solution for individuals seeking to improve their smiles and dental health, and they’re not just for kids. We treat a number of adult braces patients, too. Let us help create your “dream smile” and answer any questions you may have along the way.

What are the differences between Damon ceramic braces and Damon metal braces?

Damon clear (ceramic) braces and Damon metal braces are both part of the innovative Damon System, which uses self-ligating technology for efficient and comfortable orthodontic treatment. However, they do have some key differences:

  1. Appearance: The most noticeable difference is in appearance. Damon clear braces are made of transparent ceramic material, making them less visible and a popular choice for those who want a more discreet look. On the other hand, Damon metal braces are made of high-quality stainless steel and are more noticeable.
  2. Durability: Damon metal braces are generally more durable than Damon clear braces. While ceramic braces are designed to be strong, they may not withstand extreme forces as well as their metal counterparts. This makes metal braces a better option for those involved in contact sports or those who are concerned about potential damage.
  3. Cost: Damon clear braces are typically more expensive than Damon metal braces due to the material and the technology used. However, we aim to make every treatment option as affordable as possible, so let’s talk about your unique situation.
  4. Maintenance: Both types require good oral hygiene, but Damon clear braces may require a bit more care to prevent staining.

Ultimately, the choice between Damon clear and Damon metal braces depends on the individual’s preferences, lifestyle, and budget. Both options provide excellent results, so it’s about choosing the one that best fits your needs. Let Hurley and Volk Orthodontics help you choose, as we’re committed to ensuring you make the most informed decision possible.

Caring for Damon Clear Braces

Caring for Damon ceramic braces requires a bit of attention, but developing a few daily habits can ensure your braces stay in great shape and work effectively:

  1. Regular Brushing: Food particles can easily get stuck in your braces and lead to plaque buildup or staining. Brush your teeth at least twice daily (preferably 3 times), ideally after every meal.
  2. Floss Daily: Flossing might be more challenging with braces, but it’s important to remove food particles and plaque from between your teeth. Using special orthodontic floss or floss threaders can be helpful, and we’ll walk you through how to use them.
  3. Use Mouthwash: Rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash daily can help remove any bacteria and maintain overall oral health.
  4. Avoid Stain-Causing Foods & Drinks: Although the brackets are stain-resistant, they aren’t completely stain-proof. Plus, your elastic ties can be stained by foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, wine, and dark-colored berries. A helpful rule of thumb: if it can stain a clean white T-shirt, it will probably stain your teeth or your braces. So, if you do partake, be sure to immediately rinse or brush your teeth afterward.
  5. Avoid Hard or Sticky Foods: Foods like popcorn, hard candies, and chewy caramel can damage your braces and should be avoided.
  6. Regular Check-ups: Make sure to attend all scheduled orthodontic appointments for adjustments and to keep treatment progress moving forward. Hurley and Volk Orthodontics offers virtual orthodontic appointments with the Smile Doctors Anywhere app.
  7. Emergency Care: If a bracket breaks or a wire becomes loose, don’t panic. Apply orthodontic wax to any sharp ends to protect your mouth and contact us as soon as possible to have it repaired.

Using these simple tips can keep your ceramic braces clean and functional while on your journey to a beautiful and confident smile. Developing a daily routine for caring for your braces will play a significant role in the success of your treatment!

Which Type of Braces Should I Choose?

Damon Clear (Ceramic) Braces FAQs

How long will I have to wear ceramic braces?

Most individuals wear braces for about 18 months to 3 years. However, this varies based on several factors including the severity of your orthodontic issues, your specific treatment goals, and how well your teeth respond to braces. We’ll provide you with an estimated treatment timeline during your initial consultation, and then after you’ve been in treatment for a while, we’re able to give you an even better estimate of how long treatment will last.

Will ceramic braces stain?

Ceramic braces brackets themselves are resistant to staining and designed to maintain their clear or tooth-colored appearance throughout your treatment. “Resistant” is the key word here—versus “stain-proof.” In addition, the clear or white elastic ties that hold the wire to the brackets can be prone to staining. As a result, it’s important to avoid things like coffee, tea, red wine, or certain types of berries. Smoking can also lead to staining.

How often will I need adjustments?

You can expect to visit your orthodontist every 4 to 6 weeks. Regular visits to your orthodontist are an essential part of your treatment when you have braces. These check-ups allow us to monitor treatment progress and make necessary adjustments to keep things on track. Time between adjustments can vary, however, so we’ll let you know and help you plan for success.

How much do ceramic braces cost?

Like all orthodontic treatments, the cost of ceramic braces can vary depending on many factors. And while ceramic braces can be more expensive than traditional metal braces or other treatment options due to the higher cost of the materials, cost is not the only consideration when it comes to choosing a treatment plan. Our philosophy is that everyone deserves a smile they love to share, so from accepting most insurance plans and optimizing your benefits to offering affordable payment options and 0% interest financing, we work hard to ensure every treatment plan is as affordable as possible. Perhaps more importantly, our goal is to ensure you get the most benefit from your orthodontic investment.
